Vice Chair (Anaesthesia)

John O'Rourke

I’m John, an academic clinical fellow (ACF) in anaesthetics working in York. My research interests are in cardiopulmonary exercise testing and perioperative risk prediction. I’ve previously undertaken research in medical education and in my role as Vice Chair for Anaesthesia I want to use this experience to engage anaesthetic trainees in research and advocate for expanding academic opportunities within anaesthetic training. I also want to empower those trainees with an interest in research to deliver high-quality, collaborative projects across the UK, a key part of which will be the upcoming RAFT 5 project.

Events

Inez Armstrong

Hello, I’m Inez! I’m currently an anaesthetic clinical fellow in the South West of England where I have previously been involved in the organisation of regional educational conferences for residents on the ACCS programme. As events lead I want to help make research feel more accessible to all residents, including non-academic trainees. During my tenure I hope to bring you some exciting opportunities to get involved and also showcase the amazing work residents are doing across the UK.

IT/education

Amelia Van Manen

Hello, I’m Amelia, an anaesthetics registrar working in Oxford. Prior to my medical degree I was a medical anthropologist with a research interest in healthcare culture and organisational power dynamics. I am passionate about improving our experience of being anaesthetic trainees with education and research being key themes in this. I am currently a research fellow and undertaking a masters in medical education at Cambridge. As education lead my goal is to develop RAFT resources to support all of the TRNs, and enable early career anaesthetists to meet the curriculum requirements for research in a way that is interesting and empowering.
